8/1/2014: President Lee's Weekly Message

Happy Friday Rotarians. Another beautiful day, wonderful lightning storm last night and great meeting today.

First, a special thanks today to all who helped make today’s meeting possible:

  • Josh and others for Greeting
  • Judy Corwin for the inspiration
  • Mike Sheets for the Rotary moment
  • Josh Pennekaker for setting up and taking care of the welcoming table

REMEMBER – August is Rotary membership month. Take some time and think about three of your favorite people (or just people who you know and like) who you would like to share the magic of Rotary with and invite them to an August meeting. As a club, both locally and internationally, the more members we have – the more Rotary can shine. We, as an organization, have big ambitions and ideas to make and leave the world a better place (like ridding the world of polio). Our chances are greatly increased of accomplishing those goals with more members. In addition, we are an awesome club always looking for new awesome members . Remember – your guests first lunch is free! So, take a moment and make the call or send the email. Next week I am bringing 3 guests personally. Let’s fill the room!

Please keep former Member Buzz Berra in your thoughts as he lost his son in a tragic climbing accident.

We will be soon having our next round of planning meetings for the Rotary Day and our Major fund raiser. I am hopeful everyone can be involved in some way.

As a reminder, the wine tour and taste has been cancelled. THANKS to Glenda and Stan Baker for their efforts. Keep up the great focus.

We were fortunate today to have the President of the Rotary Club of Philomath, Tony Wilson, who gave a “powerful” talk today on the past and future of Consumers power. It was very appropriate with our electrical storm in the skies last night.

Past secretary Ken Haines is off to do a big MS ride for charity this weekend. Attached is some information about that ride for those interested in supporting the ride or him.

As we look forward, please keep the following dates and events in mind:

  • August 8 – Speaker Mike Ripley of Team Dirt to discuss the new Alsea Falls Mountain Bike trails and more.
  • August 8 – Go Mountain Biking with Trevor Griesmeyer
  • August 15 – District Governor Tim Mobley visits our club
  • August 21 – Special Friends Picnic at the Rotary Shelter. Contact Andrea Thornberry
  • August 22 – No meeting

Make it a great week and see you next week.

Yours in Service,
Lee Eckroth
