9/26/2014: President Lee's Weekly Message

Happy Friday Rotarians. Friday’s are my favorite day of the week. I get to start my day with Rotary and end heading into a weekend. In the midst, I get to spend lunch with a group of my favorite people. That is awesome.

Today was another action packed day for our Rotary club. THANKS Josh, Craig, Doug, and Inge for helping make today’s meeting possible. In addition – thanks to the Legend Al Hutchinson for moderating our presentation. One more thanks – our Rotary moment today was brought to us by Rotary Ambassador to End Polio Ziggy Marley and his commitment to the revolution to eradicate polio – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uzt6tTbaFAI

A special thanks today to our guest speakers – Anne Schuster and Jerry Jackson. They are both candidates for positions as Benton County Commissioners. THANKS for all you do for our community to work to make it one of the most amazing places to live. Your dedication is appreciated. Al – great job moderating :). If you want more candidate info, below is information from Kevin Dwyer in regards to another candidate forum.

Congratulations to for being caught being good Dolf Devos. What you did for the Boys & Girls Club was amazing. Your rock.

As a reminder, World Polio Day is October 24th. Not only are we going to have a special club history presentation that day – but between now and then we have a challenge. We REALLY do need everyone’s participation to succeed.

Every member is being asked to contribute $1.00 to the Rotary Foundation to end polio NOW for each year they have been in Rotary. For example, I have been in for 11 years. I contributed $11 today. Tom Nelson is leading this fundraiser with the help of Kathleen and our Foundation team.

Our club has 1453 years of Rotary service. Just saying that is awesome. Here is the reason everyone’s participation is needed:

  • If everyone participates we will have raised $1453. But wait – there is more!!! When we succeed, and everyone must contribute, our club is going to add to the funds $380 (which is $10 per year for each year we have been around). But wait, there is even more!!!! We have two anonymous donors who will match the $380 (for an additional $740 specifically to the foundation).
  • In summary, if everyone contributes, we will raise $1453, but that will quickly turn into $2573 with all the matches.

Please contact Tom Nelson, 503-867-5544 or Tom.Nelson@CorvallisOregon.gov, myself 541-760-4742 or Lee@Talk2Lee.comor Kathleen Hutchinson, 541-760-2529 or kathleenhutchinson@windermere.comto make your contributions. Tom will keep us posted on the progress.

There is a final bonus here –this our chance to have our club be a club of members with 100% contribution. This is the year to “Light Up Rotary – Let’s do it!!”
Make it a great weekend my friends, have a great time at Fall Festival and I will see you all next week.

Sincerely,
Lee Eckroth
