Greater Rotary Recap Friday November 6, 2015

It was another great day to be a Rotarian. It was Dad’s weekend at OSU, with UCLA coming to town for football. Ken Pastega and family provided a spectacular gift to the club – their suite box at Reser Stadium to raise money for Rotary’s PolioPlus Foundation. Al Hutchinson donated $1,200, securing high bid and the box. Thanks to Ken and Al for superb Rotary spirit!
The meeting was called to order with John Haroldson providing an Inspirational moment. Joseph Bailey introduced visiting Rotarians Pete Sekermestrovich, from the Rotary Club of Corvallis. We also welcomed Rotarian guests Liv Gifford, Cyndi Shear, Mark Montanez, and Kimberly Zentmire. The first meeting of the month

Congratulations Dr. Poole!
 Last week I neglected to mention that Van Melick, coordinating the Middle School of the Month recognition, introduced the first two recognized students of the new school year: Bryanna Dicey from Cheldelin Middle School and Sebbie Law from Linus Pauling Middle School. Great program supporting youth in Corvallis – thanks, Van.
 Anissa Arthenayake was inducted as a new member of the club. Her sponsor, Darin McLemore, told us that Anissa is the newly hired Deposit Services Manager for Citizen’s Bank. Anissa has a long history of volunteer service in Corvallis and we are very happy to have her as a new member. Welcome to the club, Anissa!
Lauren Gallegos provided the club with a great Vocational presentation, tracing her roots from Columbia, Tennessee (Mule Capital of the World), telling us that it’s all about cornbread and chicken. Lauren made numerous references to family, an important aspect of her quality of life. Lauren described numerous volunteer events in her life and told us that we have two hands – one to help ourselves and the second to help others. She is employed with Fidelity National Title as a sales executive
Tom Nelson provided club members with a brief overview of the club’s activity with both the Rotary Foundation and the PolioPlus Foundation. In essence, we are on track with our goals for supporting both foundations and the great work that is accomplished with the use of our funds. We were limited in time due to a very full plate at this meeting (apologies to Tom), so we will invite Tom back at a later date for additional details of how we make a difference in the world through contributions to the Rotary Foundations.
FOOTBALL PREDICATIONS: Stan Baker championed the Beaver Nation with a strong prediction of an upset over #23 ranked UCLA for Saturday’s football game with a score of 22-10. Last week’s predication of an upset by Dog Oxsen didn’t quite materialize in Salt Lake City.
With Cal meeting the Ducks in Autzen for a home game, Gerry Kosanovic predicts another Duck win, with Cal losing for the fourth straight time, with a predicted score of 44-28.
Next Week, November 13: Veteran’s Day Rememberance + 3 Member Vocationals!
