Friday was another awesome day for a Rotary meeting. I know you hear me say that a lot, but we really are having a lot of fun and every week. It is a great way to start your weekend.
Friday started with a inspirational invocation and pledge from our own Tom Nelson. We followed with our Rotary moment – which was Tiffany Bailey’s vocation. It is always good to get to know our fellow Rotarians more. It is even better when a vocation ends with a cheer :). We were fortunate to have our assistant district governor Rob Thurston joining us for lunch.
We have lots of membership activity happening in our club – and that is Awesome. On Friday Russ Hedge was inducted into the club. This coming Friday Jill Schuster and Jennifer Moore will be inducted into our club. This past week our membership-meister Michele Kellison hosted a membership after hours at Sky High and announced this quarter’s 100% club. In addition, we were reminded of the upcoming membership rally in Roseburg. For more information visit http://district5110.org/membership-action-rally/ and/or let president-elect Gerry know of your plans so folks can carpool together. One more thing, attached to this week’s Recap is a copy of our member directory hopefully to make your life just a little easier.
Speaking of fun, Judy Corwin has free tickets for our Rotary Club for an upcoming Pink Out gymnastics tournament and women’s basketball game. Come to our meeting this coming Friday – the 23rd – to get yours.
We were fortunate to have Jim Swinyard provide us an update on our Foundation giving. We set a goal of $20,000 for the Rotary Foundation and $5000 for Polio – for a total of $25,000. We are right around $16,000 total with 5 months to go. We can do it!! Jim also reminded us of the following “For the next four weeks, the club will be matching (up to $200) the donations of members who are not yet Paul Harris Fellows. One of our club members has also agreed to match the member’s donation up to $200. During this period, your donation of $100 results in $300 credited to your account.” Finally, Tom Nelson awarded two Paul Harris fellowships.
Once a month we are fortunate to have Don and Ted bringing us some fun with club birthdays and celebrations. It is normally the first Friday of every month, but this month we were delayed. THANKS guys for bringing us this singing fun each month.
Our speakers on Friday were Skip Rung and Dan Whittaker sharing with us about Angel Investing, Technology and Talent in the Willamette Valley. Very, Very interesting.
We ended the day with raffle which for this week included a copy of the book “Give &Take” a Woodstocks gift certificate (Thanks Carol Lee) and $5.00.
For our meeting this coming Friday, the 23rd, we have a special speaker – OSU Women’s volleyball coach Terry Liskevych fresh off a trip to the Sweet 16. Come early as we will be ringing the bell at 12:05.
Finally, this is one final reminder of our major fundraising planning meeting on Monday, 1/19/2015 at 6pm at Market of Choice. Please come. The more people we have, the better our chances are of making wise decisions for our club.
Thanks everyone. Make it a great week. Let me know if you need anything at all.
