Rotarians in Action! On Tuesday, March 2nd, 17 sessions were held with local elementary school classes, in both English and Spanish, to read this year’s book: The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson. The response was overwhelmingly positive – from both the children and the volunteer readers. Rotarians were impressed with the computer skills of the students, the challenging job of the teachers, and reported having a fun and joy-filled time participating in this event. Huge thanks to Suzanne MacFarland Price for creating an engaging slide presentation which augmented the book. And, thanks to all of the readers: Kathi Hutchinson, Suzanne McFarland-Price, Julie Manning, Steve Vondra, Ken Haines, Jeff Davis, Richard Tirrell, Tiffany Bailey, Andrea Myhre, Gerry Kosanovic, Inge King, Ted McCann.
Our Club members ROCK! Read on to hear what a teacher had to say about our own Ken Haines.
“My 5th graders had such a fabulous visit with Ken Haines today! Not only did he read some great stories, but he brought HIMSELF to our classroom! This group gets alot from hearing personal stories and being able to make connections with others and the world around them. And, Ken did just that! He shared about his childhood, touched on important events in history, highlighted what Rotary does for the community, answered student questions, and interacted with them all in such positive and patient way!
Please pass on my THANKS to Rotary for creating this opportunity! “
