District Governor Dave Reece, from the Greater Albany Rotary Club, addressed the Greater Corvallis Rotary Club on Friday at lunchtime giving a clear message and recognizing the club in several ways. “Your club defines itself,”he said. “Be who you want to be”. Reece appreciated the club for setting a standard for so many others.
The night before, Reece ask the Greater Corvallis Board to define the club in three words or less. What he learned were words such as “passionate,” “enthusiastic,” “pride,” and “fun.” It was not the prototypical response he has heard through District 5110, but it was an energizing array of answers that didn’t surprise him.
Reece talked of the international theme for the year in Rotary Serving Humanity and complimented how the club is “living that direction.” Paul Harris created Rotary based on friendship in business. Reece stressed a Rotary standing for “integrity, maintaining credibility and making sure attendance expectations take a back seat to the many ways that Rotarians can serve their club, their community and the world.”
“Finding our passion and that connection to Rotary is what keeps us engaged. And that is foremost in fulfilling our role in Serving Humanity. Reece pointed to a photo of his grandkids as to his “why” for Rotary membership,” he said. The district Governor emphasized the youth theme by talking of the importance RYLA (including expanding the offering locally especially geared toward including middle schoolers), Interact (currently growing at CHS and starting up at CVHS) and Rotaract (strong showing at OSU).
Greater Corvallis was District Governor Reece’s 53rd club stop on the 5110 tour. He concluded this one by praising the club for its collective commitment and leadership.
