Play Corvallis Play and End Polio Now

Piano on riverfrontEvery Summer, musicians young and old, beginners and advanced are invited to share their love of music with the community at Play Corvallis Play, the brainchild of Rotarian Lee Eckroth.  Pianos are stationed throughout the community, including the Downtown Riverfront, for anyone to plan, listen and enjoy.  This year’s pianos features a new look — a Rotary piano that promotes Rotary’s pledge to Service Above Self and to Eradicate Polio.

Rotary has raised $1.5 billion to vaccinate 2.5 billion children worldwide to end this disease. Today, there are only two countries that have never stoppedEnd Polio Now Pioano transmission of the wild poliovirus: Afghanistan and Pakistan. Less than 370 polio cases were confirmed worldwide in 2014, which is a reduction of more than 99.9 percent since the 1980s, when the world saw about 1,000 cases per day.  2018 is acknowledged as the end-date for this disease worldwide.  Rotary will continue to work toward this cause, along with many governments and partners around the world.

Pianos will be located in the community for all to play over the next few weeks.
