It is customary for Rotarians to share interesting information about themselves during vocationals as a club welcomes them into membership. Carla Francis and Erica Jensen did not disappoint.
Carla Francis, whose family is from Oklahoma, came to Oregon in 1986 by way of California. She hails from a big family of siblings. In Corvallis, her family includes husband Bill, children Kim and Christopher, grandchildren Emma and Tyler, and pets Lady and Abby. Ms. Francis studied psychology and social work at OSU and has worked 20 years in child welfare. She is a member of the Assistance League and past-president of the Corvallis Morning Rotary Club. While Carla has lots of passions, such as canoeing, kayaking, sewing, and motor home trips, her favorite is international service and this is why Rotary fits in her life. Her efforts include projects with Uzghhorod, Ukraine, Corvallis Sister City. Her message: Let the words you speak pass through three gates—is it true, is it necessary and is it kind.
Erica Jensen, nicknamed Eri, took time from a busy tax season, to share. Erica was raised by her grandparents in Crescent City. She lived in Alturis and Klamath Falls before going to Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif. and lived in nearby Eureka. After graduating, Erica worked for Green Diamond Timber Company for 5 years as was struck by the “true vocational spirit” of the loggers and foresters in the company. As a CPA, she became a financial statement auditor, which took her to Sacramento, Calif., then decided to return to Oregon and the mid-Willamette Valley. Erica works as a CPA for Spectrum, calling them her “work family. A risk-taker who came to Corvallis without knowing anyone, Erica’s message is: _I believe that until you take ownership of a place, a community, you can’t call that place your home. _ Erica is happy to be in Corvallis.
