Rotary Middle School Essay Contest: Security vs. Privacy

Rotarian readers rank record number of essay contest submissions the the annual Rotary Middle School Essay Contest.  Rotary challenged middle school students to think critically and share their work with the community. This year students were prompted to think about the balance of security and privacy.

Essay Question: Write a 300 word expository essay on the following question:  Cameras are everywhere, but should they be?  Cell phone photography and surveillance cameras have  become prevalent in most places. Video is increasingly used to deter crime or unwanted behaviors.  When does the benefit of video surveillance pose a risk to personal privacy? What is more important, privacy or security?  Explain your answer.

Stay tuned to hear our winning middle schoolers read their essays at Rotary lunch on Friday, April 26.
