RYLA students share experiences

RYLA logoThree Corvallis High School sophomores gave adults in the Greater Corvallis Rotary Club a leadership lesson.  Aaron Lewis, Maile McFarland, and Lily Rogowski were the high school students selected to attend the six-day Rotary Youth Leadership Academy camp in Cottage Grove. They were among 140 exceptional students selected from Rotary District 5110, learning the principles of leadership to promote peace, understanding, and goodwill in the world.

The three youth shared leadership lessons about service, conflict resolution, active listening, and challenge activities. They challenged Rotarians to know their “true colors” of what drives them in leadership — emotion, loyalty, short-term goals, logic. Students shared about “Walk the Line,” a challenge activity in which individuals marked their experiences to illustrate “that no one is alone” in experiences, but can find others with similar views.

Aaron is the son of Bob and Laurie Lewis; Maile is the daughter of Angela and Scott McFarland; and Lily is the daughter of Ruth Palma and Robert Rogowski.  All three students are exceptional students and active in school activities.
